Hi, I’m Rachel Elias—sommelier by trade, cat herder by nature, and your guide through this little corner of the internet where wine gets a whole lot more approachable (and maybe just a little less serious).
Let’s be real: wine can feel snobby and overwhelming. I’ve worked in restaurants, taught classes, and lived the swirl-sniff-sip life… and while I love what I do, I’ve always wanted a space that felt more like a cozy couch chat than a lecture. So I created The Purfect Pour—a passion project fueled by women, wine, and a couple of chaos-loving cats.
It’s been a little while since I first launched the idea, but after a few detours (life happens), I’m finally back to pour into this space—pun very much intended.
So, who am I?
I’m the woman who will absolutely cry over a perfect glass of Barolo, organize her wine shelf by vibe not varietal, and insist on proper Riedel glassware because if we’re doing this, we’re doing it right. I love helping people fall in love with wine the way I did—without fear, without judgment, and always with a little fun along the way.
And who’s “we”?
Oh, you’ll meet them. Often.
- Tom – My husband, designated cork-popper, glassware connoisseur, and the calm to my Cabernet-fueled chaos. His passion for proper stemware actually outshines mine—which is saying something. If there’s a Riedel shape for it, he owns it, polishes it, and probably has a backup… just in case.
- The Girls – Our feline trio who keep things interesting (and occasionally chaotic):
- Boo – The original. The icon. Ruler of the wine cellar with a velvet paw and an unshakable sense of superiority.
- Luna & Astrid – Our twin kittens, still finding their place in the pride. Equal parts curiosity and chaos, they’re just beginning their journey with us—but you’ll be seeing a lot more of their whiskers soon.

This is a place to learn, laugh, sip slowly, and remember that wine should bring us joy—not stress. You don’t need a fancy cellar or a vocabulary full of French words. You just need a little curiosity and a good pour.
